On October 22nd, foreign teachers attended initial training in safeguarding. Under the guidance of Mr. James, who has been working closely with ACSP administrators and disciplinary departments, the English Program is introducing safeguarding protocols aligned with both international standards and established local norms in order to ensure the well-being of all EP students and staff.
A recent survey of teachers in the UK revealed that they believed the most important change/improvement in British schools in the last 25 years has been the development of safeguarding procedures. To provide a similar level of care at ACSP will be a substantial project which eventually requires the understanding and support of every adult on the ACSP campus, so Thursday’s training sessions for primary and secondary foreign teachers represent only the first step in establishing the systematic delivery of better pastoral care and security through a collaborative approach.
Teachers were informed about online systems and how to report or respond to various potential concerns about student welfare, mental health, online safety, and much more, while ideas and experiences were shared. Despite potential language or cultural barriers, our foreign staff bring valuable experience and ideas from around the world, but only by working closely with their Thai colleagues can the greatest benefit to our students be achieved.
